Welcome! Lola is self-taught Boston-based mixed media artist.
The
War Peace Project
Lola initiated The War and Peace Project in late 2009. Working from her 1976 Russian edition of Tolstoy's War
and Peace, Adrienne Wetmore, Emma Rhodes, Lucy Arrington, Lynn Waskelis, and Lola
are creating 750 individual
collages on vellum paper from each page of this masterwork. They meet in their studio in East Boston on Fridays and create these collages, side by side. Once complete, the entire project will be displayed in Russia in June 2012 at Yasnaya Polyana, the museum and estate of Leo Tolstoy.
See their exploration of the book unfold as it happens on their
blog, warpeaceproject.blogspot.com.

"Inspired by nature, the intuitive paintings seem to evolve
from the subconscious level, the emergence of form is resolved
as part of the process of painting. A passion for humanity exists
in the complex expressive form and inferences. As a whole, the
work achieves poignancy through a unique perspective that resonates
throughout the cohesive presentation. Wonderful work."
